Staycation is one of my favorite weeks of the whole year. For those of you just tuning in, Johann's office is closed for a whole week every August, and since it's the most expensive and crowded time of year to travel in Europe, we don't! We spend our summer holiday right here in our backyard, and with the South of France as a backyard, we have no complaints. We look at it as an opportunity to take advantage of everything the area has to offer, visiting places we've never been or revisiting old haunts we don't get to often enough.
As of five p.m. yesterday, our holiday officially began, and we started it in Pertuis (two villages over) with a chic cocktail party. Our friend Jerome Puvilland (I wish I could direct you to his web site, but he doesn't have one!) is a magnificent (and self-taught) artist and his work is currently being shown at Restaurant l'Olivier in Pertuis. The space is just perfect for his contemporary pieces and I wish I had taken a close-up of some of these so that you could see the detail that goes into them.
If you'd like a better look, you may have to come visit us, as we intend to support the arts and buy one of his paintings ourselves. (But seriously, if you're interested, e-mail me and I'll put you in touch.)
That restaurant looks wicked cool! And only 2 towns away? Maybe we should go when we get there?
